Meet the sheep

Marge and Middie, two hair sheep, arrived with their goat companion, Midnight, after illness struck their former caretakers. Sadly, Midnight’s baby did not survive, but the trio found comfort and community here. Unlike wool sheep, Marge and Middie shed their coats naturally and never need shearing. Though shy at first, once they trust you they will happily trail along like little shadows.

Nicholas and Mistletoe, or Nick and Misti for short, were abandoned on the top of Crest Mountain. For seven days, our founders Barb and Trina, along with volunteers, braved freezing cold and steep terrain to save them. This was Barb’s final rescue, fulfilling her last wish that they be safe. Today Nick and Misti roam this pasture as a living tribute to her compassion.

And this is Mistletoe!

Kevin and Penelope, a brother and sister duo, first came to us around 2015. They were lambs in a student play at Western Carolina University. When the students learned they would be returned to a farm to be processed for food, they stepped in to buy them and asked us to give them a permanent home. Still on bottles when they arrived, they grew into the gentle souls of our flock. Playful and affectionate, they keep us laughing every day. Penelope has pink hooves, and Kevin is slightly larger with a black tinge to his hooves.

Meet our Cow

Tulsi is our lone cow at this time. Tulsi’s rescue was urgent. After her owner underwent major surgery, Tulsi was left in the care of someone unequipped to manage her. We found her underweight and standing in mud up to her knees. With patience and teamwork, we brought her here, and she has been thriving ever since. At first the sheep were terrified, but they soon realized Tulsi is a gentle soul. Some now even share food bowls and hay racks with her. Watching her leap across her pasture with joy is a daily reminder of the healing power of compassion.
