Meet our Geese

Lizzie and Maverick

Lizzie and Maverick are our resident geese. Lizzie arrived several years ago from another rescue and used to patrol the farm with pride alongside her partner Clyde. Clyde sadly passed away in December 2025 but in the late summer of 2026, we welcomed Maverick to our sanctuary! For everyone’s safety, we give them their own private space during visiting hours, but when the sanctuary is closed, they roam freely and enjoy swimming in the pond. Lizzie has black and orange feet and her neck is smooth. We believe Maverick is an African Runner Goose.

Meet our Chickens

The brown chicken is Fergie. One of our volunteers rescued her after other chickens severely injured her eye. She likes taking dust baths, scratching in the dirt, and eating mealworms.

Red, along with many of our chickens, came to us when bear attacks wiped out the rest of the flock. The owners no longer wished to keep chickens and luckily Red found her way to us.

Rhonda is the last of the group called the “City Girls” who came to us from a church parking lot in downtown Asheville where they lived in a cramped pen with two goats, Matt and Mark. Life was noisy and stressful, but here at the sanctuary, all of our chickens get to enjoy open space and sunshine.
